The Big Splash
Join us to celebrate our 20th Anniversary at our Big Splash party – 28th and 29th October. In addition to the usual talks and feed shows in the aquarium, there will be lots going on all weekend…
Drop in creative workshops throughout the day
Help create a rubbish art installation for the aquarium – turning plastic bottles into beautiful jellyfish with artist Carn Standing. Get busy with a spray can and give our sea wall a graffiti makeover – with street artist Marc from Freshpaint (most suitable for ages 12+). Have fun with fish prints – supported by Friends of Macduff Marine Aquarium.
Find out how we went about restoring our kelp reef exhibit – where did the fish go? How did we get the rock features in there? A short film and models show the whole process.
Underwater wildlife photography exhibition from ex-aquarium manager and photographer Witek Mojsiewicz.
Saturday 28th October
The weekend’s celebrations begin with a rousing performance from our local pipe band!
Get up close and personal with bugs, snakes and lizards with Animates – presentations and drop in sessions throughout the day.
Film ‘To the Journey’s End’ – another chance to watch this amazing footage of the Atlantic Salmon’s epic struggle for survival.
Take part in a fishy prize draw, watch divers feed the fish, get your face painted and more!.
Sunday 29th October
11am: Aberdeenshire Council Provost Bill Howatson officially marks the 20th anniversary.
TV’s wildlife film maker and presenter Gordon Buchanan will cut our birthday cake and kick start Sunday’s activities! Gordon will be presenting ‘Animal Families and Me’ during the day – tickets for this will be included in the normal aquarium price – but places will be limited and only available on the day.
See you there!‹ 2017
