Coming soon – you can take a guided behind the scenes tour to areas normally restricted to the public. Or go deeper and become an aquarist for a day, a personal experience that will give you an introduction to the work of our aquarists – perfect for a budding marine biologist!
Behind the Scenes Tour
From November 2017
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3pm
Discover how our tanks and life support systems work, what it takes to maintain our unique kelp reef exhibit and learn how we ensure our animals get the nutrition they need to be healthy and happy. See the quarantine facility, food preparation area and pump room and try on some dive kit!
This tour is included in your admission ticket, but places are limited so advance booking is essential – call ahead or book at Reception.
Junior Aquarist for a Day
Age 12-15: £50
Accompanied by a friendly and knowledgeable Marine Master for the day, your experience will include:
Behind the scenes tour
Help with food preparation and plankton culture
Clean some tank windows
Fish health check
Help with feeding the dogfish and rays in the Sandy Sea Floor exhibit
Help with setting up the divers’ equipment
Join our Marine Masters presenting the dive show – present your favourite facts!
Assist with the interactive touch pool session
Goody bag and certificate
Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm – subject to availability. Advance booking is essential. Please note, lunch is not included.
Aquarist for a Day
Age 16 plus: £80
As per the Junior Aquarist for a Day, but also including:
Basic introduction to water chemistry
Water quality tests
Assist with exhibit maintenance
