Education programmes include:
• Marine Life of the Moray
Firth (P1-7) A general introductioin to our local
marine habitats and the plants and animals that live
there.
• Life
on the Sea Shore (P1-7) Living down on the shore
can be tough - discover what kinds of plants and animals
call the seashore home and how they cope with the daily
problems of tides and waves. There is a practical
option for levels P4-7 – explore a local
rocky shore accompanied by an aquarium guide.
• Life as a Fish (P3-7)
Fish come in many shapes and sizes suited to different
marine habitats - this programme explores the biology
of fish and how they are equipped for an aquatic lifestyle.
• Catch of the Day (P4-7)
Fishing is very very important
to the economy of the Moray Firth area - this programme
is an introduction to the different species of commercial
fish and shellfish, how they are caught and the importance
of managing stocks for the future.
• Conserving the Moray Firth
(P4-7) With about 120,000 people living in working
around the Moray Firth, we are bound to affect the Firth's
environment. This programme looks at the impact people
have on the Moray Firth and explores some ways we can
help conserve it.
• Sea
Life Up Close (P3-7) In this art activity, children
are encouraged to look closely at colours, textures
and patterns in the marine life around the aquarium
and then draw what they see. Thanks to Iain Mitchell
of Aberdeenshire Council for help with this programme.
• Writing and Drama (P1-7)
After taking in the aquarium's exhibits, children can
describe their observations and feelings and use them
back at school in poems, stories or sketches.
