Explore the local marine life from the coastal habitats, through the fringing kelp forests down to the bottom of the sea floor. The class will capture an insight into underwater diversity of life and survival in the seas. This talk is a general introduction to local marine life and can be tailored to cover your class's needs.
This programme covers the life cycles of different plant and animal groups including seaweeds, fish, birds and invertebrates before investigating who eats who in the underwater world.
Exploring the diversity of life in the sea, pupils will observe the plants and animals that we exploit for food and the journey they make from the sea to our plates. Includes a PowerPoint presentation.
The seas have been used by humans for thousands of years, the pupils will discover the diversity of species that live in the sea and the effect that man has on the marine ecosystem. Includes a PowerPoint presentation.
In this art activity, children are encouraged to look closely at colours, textures and patterns in the marine life around the aquarium and then draw what they see. Thanks to Iain Mitchell of Aberdeenshire Council for help with this programme.
After taking in the aquarium's exhibits, children can describe their observations and feelings and use them back at school in poems, stories or sketches.
