The following programmes have links with the curricula for Standard Grade and Higher Biology.

 

Marine Invertebrates (Higher Biology)

97% of all animals are invertebrates and in the marine environment there are over 160,00 known species. Learn more about the incredible diversity of marine invertebrates - from the inanimate sponges to the cunning octopus.

 

Practical Fieldwork - Rocky Shore Ecology (S-Grade or Higher Biology)

This programme allows students to explore the rocky shore at low tide, accompanied by Aquarium staff. Students can spend time identifying organisms, surveying the habitat and organisms' distribution before returning to the aquarium to discuss their findings.

 

SYS Biology Projects

Students can carry out individual projects at the Aquarium. Please contact the Education Officer for details.

 

From Sea to Plate (S1–S3)

Exploring the diversity of life in the sea, pupils will observe the plants and animals that we exploit for food and the journey they make from the sea to our plates. Includes a PowerPoint presentation.

 

Conserving Our Seas (S1–S3)

The seas have been used by humans for thousands of years, the pupils will discover the diversity of species that live in the sea and the effect that man has on the marine ecosystem. Includes a PowerPoint presentation.
