WITEK
HANGS UP HIS WELLIES
This
June saw a major change at the aquarium
as our esteemed manager, Witek Mojsiewicz,
retired from his post on his 60 th birthday.
Witek
has been working at the aquarium since
December 1996 and was involved with
the facility right at the start, planning
the exhibits and putting together the
fish displays. Having worked at the
Marine Laboratory in Aberdeen for 25
years previously, Witek was originally
the Displays Manager here but was promoted
to the top position in 2000 and he has
been steering the aquarium ever since.
Witek's
wealth of knowledge of fish keeping
and concern for the wellbeing of all
the marine creatures at the aquarium
have been essential in developing the
exhibits and the aquarium's excellent
reputation for showing healthy and happy
animals in realistic displays. Witek
has been a hands on manager and most
likely to be seen in a boiler suit and
yellow wellies, attending to the aquarium's
temperamental life support systems and
pumps, or in a dive suit feeding the
fish or up to his armpits in the tanks
fixing leaks or placing new animals
in their homes. His dedication and drive
has rubbed off on all the staff and
he has lead the team to achieve various
awards for the aquarium as an exceptional
visitor experience.
We
are all really sorry to see Witek go
- although he has been commuting from
Aberdeen every day for 13 years and
we understand that the time has come
for him to hang up his yellow wellies
and take life a bit easier - though,
knowing Witek, we expect he'll still
be busy pursuing his hobby of bee keeping!
Witek has been great fun to work with
over the years and we have all learned
so much from him - it's hard to imagine
how this place will be without him!
The wolf fish in particular will miss
Witek, but I’m sure they’ll join us
in wishing him well as he embarks on
this new phase in his life.
Aberdeenshire
Council will be looking to appoint a new
manager in due course
