A member of the cod family and popular food fish, the haddock is recognised by the black ‘thumb print’ mark behind its pectoral fin. It has a short chin barbel to help find food in murky seas. When spawning, the male haddock makes drumming sounds during an elaborate courtship display to attract a female.
