You can take a guided behind the scenes tour to areas normally restricted to the public. Or go deeper and become an aquarist for a day, a personal experience that will give you an introduction to the work of our aquarists – perfect for a budding marine biologist!
Behind the Scenes Tour

Discover how our tanks and life support systems work, what it takes to maintain our unique kelp reef exhibit and learn how we ensure our animals get the nutrition they need to be healthy and happy. See the quarantine facility, food preparation area and pump room and try on some dive kit!
This fascinating tour costs only £2.50 (plus your admission ticket), but places are limited and advance booking is essential – call ahead to check dates or book at Reception on the day. Minimum age is 8 years old for this activity.
Please note - these tours may be cancelled at short notice due to aquarium operations and a full refund will be offered in this case.
Aquarist for a Day

Cost: £60 (minimum age 12)
Accompanied by a friendly and knowledgeable Marine Master for the day, your experience will include:
Behind the scenes tour

Help with food preparation and plankton culture
•
Clean some tank windows
•
Fish health check
•
Help with feeding the dogfish and rays in the Sandy Sea Floor exhibit
•
Help with setting up the divers’ equipment
•
Join our Marine Masters presenting the dive show – present your favourite facts!
•
Assist with the interactive touch pool session
Basic introduction to water chemistry
•
Water quality tests
•
Assist with exhibit maintenance
•
T-shirt and certificate
Wednesdays from 10am to 3pm – subject to availability. Advance booking is essential. Please note, lunch is not included.
