The ling is long and slender and a member of the cod family. Like the cod, it has a barbel under its chin for finding food. Young ling live in shallower waters to 20m but adults prefer to go deeper. They usually live alone on the rocky sea bed or hiding in rocky crevices. Female ling can spawn as many as 60 million eggs!
