Aquarium Nets Best Visitor Experience Award
The aquarium has been chosen as the winner of the 2022 Best Visitor Experience in the Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards.
We are thrilled to bits to have won the 2022 Best Visitor Experience award in the Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards. The aquarium was up against some tough competition, with other nominations for the category being the Aberdeen Science Centre and the Aberdeen Art Gallery.
We are very proud to have won this prestigious award for a second time; we first won Best Visitor Experience in 2015 and this was the first time the awards have been held since 2019. The judges mentioned they were impressed by our online presence during the pandemic and also commented that they really like the ethos of the aquarium's focus on the area rather than the business. Judges also noted that the aquarium is alive to the challenges that its potential customers are facing with the cost of living challenges which is great for inclusivity. The award was kindly sponsored by Aberdeen Airport.
As a winner in the regional awards, we automatically go forward for the national Tourism Awards next February - the Oscars of the tourism industry, the Scottish Thistle Awards.
We had a doubly exciting weekend as our new Aquarist, Chris Rickard, who was in Birmingham attending the National Aquarium Conference (NAC) came home with the Spirit of NAC award for his presentation on Flapper Skates.
